Arresting Child Predators on the Internet.
On February 4, 2014, at 10:00 A.M., the Jacksonville Beach Police Department hosted a press conference where the Jacksonville Beach Moose Lodge #1558 made their presentation of a “Cop-In-A-Box” unit to our Agency. The “Cop-in-a-Box” program was created in an effort to offer Law Enforcement a cost-effective way of protecting our children from internet predators.
The Safe Surfin’ Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, together with its supporting partner – Moose International, a fraternal and service organization, has led the nation in the creation and dissemination of free Internet safety educational programs for children. The Safe Surfin’ team launched the “Cop-In-A-Box” initiative aimed at improving the drastically out-of-balance ratio of police Internet Crime Investigators vs. internet sexual predators.
The equipment that was presented to the Jacksonville Beach Police Department was funded by Jacksonville Beach Moose Lodge #1558 and cost approximately $3,500.00. The unit is comprised of a computer tower, large screen monitor, and printer. This will enhance our agency’s capabilities to investigate and initiate investigation involving the exploitation of children. These added capabilities also will enhance our ability to provide the State Attorney’s Office with more evidence involving these intricate investigations.
