Program will alert users when entering the area of a registered sex offender
BEDFORD, VA, NOVEMBER 14—The Safe Surfin Foundation (SSF), an organization dedicated to preventing the victimization of children by Internet predators, has released a new mobile phone application to instantly alert parents when their children are nearing the location of a registered sex offender.
The program, named “The SSF Sex Offender ALERT,” relies upon the National Sex Offender Registry to allow parents to be warned when their children are traveling near the home of a person listed in the database. Users can also type in a zip code or address to see where registered sex offenders live.
“When a parent drops their child off at a friend’s home, parks their car or is even going for a walk, they will know which areas to be careful of,” said Sheriff Mike Brown, chairman and founder of SSF.
“This application is a great tool for parents and guardians, and it’s only possible because of SSF’s generous supporters who trusted us to make a difference.”
The organization says it will regularly update the application with new information and upgrades as they are developed.
