Jason Campbell to oversee large expansion of group’s programs to combat child predators.
The Safe Surfin’ Foundation (SSF), a non-profit dedicated to protecting children from Internet predators, has chosen a new Executive Director to oversee the organization as it continues to grow. Jason Campbell, a resident of Bedford County and experienced manager and activist, was chosen to expand SSF. Campbell says he will oversee the launching of several new initiatives to protect America’s children.
“We are proud to choose someone from our community with experience in activism on a national level,” said Sheriff Michael Brown, the chairman of SSF’s board.
Campbell has had a long career in non-profit management, public policy and activism. He has served as the National Media Director for the Christian Coalition of America and Program Director for the Christian Action Network.
“The Internet is now involved in virtually everything we do now. We can’t simply shield our children from it anymore,” Campbell said.
“That’s why we’re going to teach parents and children about how real the threat is and how to protect themselves, and we’re going to go on the offense against the predators.”
Campbell also has a personal reason for getting involved with SSF. He was victimized by a sexual predator as a child and expressed his “deep desire to fight against it with all I’ve got.”
Among the programs Campbell is overseeing is the development of mobile phone technology to protect children. He has begun work on a “Cop-in-a-Box” phone application that will immediately alert parents when their children come near the home of someone charged with a sex crime.
SSF grew out of a nationally-recognized program called “Operation Blue Ridge Thunder” developed by Sheriff Michael Brown. Sheriff Brown, who recently won re-election in Bedford County, has been combating child predators since 1998. Safe Surfin’ has received numerous honors from law enforcement agencies and high-profile celebrity endorsements.
